Language Learning, Adventure and Culture ‘All in One’

This is a unique experience designed for mature adults, over 40s and families, who would like to improve their level of English in a relaxed, friendly atmosphere in the historical city of York.  The package is very flexible and involves a mix of language learning, culture and visits.


By the end of the course you will:

  • be able to use English with greater confidence, fluency and accuracy
  • understand much more of the historical and cultural background to the UK
  • have visited some of Yorkshire’s beautiful countryside and coast
  • have had a lot of fun and made some new friends



You will receive up to 20 hours per week of language teaching with experienced trainers in one of York’s historical locations, for example Jacobs Well (Medieval Hall), Grays Court (possibly the oldest continuously occupied house in the United Kingdom), The Medical Society (founded in 1832). This will be in groups of 3-4 and will be adapted to the needs of the group. In the afternoons you can go off on your own to explore the city or you can choose from the following optional afternoon activities:

If you would like to go off on your own at the weekend our team will help you with bookings and arrangements. If you would like to be accompanied so that you can continue practising your English, the following are available.

Course Content

Participants decide which areas to experience from the following:

  • personal English language feedback
  • improvement of spoken English (pronunciation, intonation and accuracy)
  • discussions and fluency development in the English language
  • English for travel
  • interactive talks on cultural issues
  • professional English

Fact Check

  • Arrive in York on Sunday
  • Monday – Thursday or Friday language/ cultural activities based in York
